SHIPPING REGULATIONS

Regulations on shipping laptops and other lithium battery-powered gadgets

Sending laptops in the mail or by courier is perfectly legal both for private individuals and for authorised resellers if the gadgets you are shipping comply with the requirements below.
Items containing attached, non-removable lithium-ion batteries, such as the newest laptop models, can be sent by all modes of transport, provided they comply with the parameters outlined in the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria:

Single-cell batteries: No more than 2 cells, ≤ 20Wh
Multi-cell batteries: No more than 4 cells, ≤ 100Wh

Devices with lithium batteries exceeding the above specifications cannot be transported by air but can be carried by road or travel by sea.
When shipping laptops, it is recommended not to charge the battery to more than 30%. The relevant transportation recommendations for every gadget model can be found in the manufacturer’s product information sheet.

For items shipped outside the EU or between two non-member states, a customs declaration will be required. Do not try to lower the value of imported goods, otherwise, the package may be seized by the customs officers. How to ship a laptop safely?

Whenever possible, ship your laptops in their original packaging, which has been tailored to protect your gadget in the best way possible. Follow our simple instructions above on how to pack a laptop for shipping to make sure your item is safe for transport. After putting it in the box, protect your laptop with enough padding to make sure it cannot move inside the package or the case. Do not forget to create a back-up copy of important data on your laptop before sending it across the country or abroad.

How to ship a laptop without the original box?

If you do not have the original box anymore, simply find a resistant cardboard box of adequate size and follow the packing instructions in a similar way:

  • Put the device in a laptop bag or a protective case.
  • Fill the box with cushioning materials such as crumpled paper or packing peanuts. Alternatively, you can use a thick layer of Styrofoam padding.
  • Put the laptop bag inside the padded cardboard box.
  • Close and seal the box. You can choose to add a warning label saying “Fragile”.
Can I receive compensation for my laptop if anything goes wrong during transportation?

Depending on the selected shipping service and the type of article being transported, shipping insurance may be included in the price of the service. For extra protection, we also offer additional insurance options with higher coverage at very low rates.

Always keep the original invoice of your device, as it serves as proof of its value. This document will be required by the courier company in case you decide to start a claim procedure for damage or loss. Please consider that insurance may not apply when shipping used or second-hand electronic devices.
